Destined for the drawing room, this installation combining bookcasing and cabinets, would become the main feature in what was a beautifully furnished room. One had to be careful when proposing a style which would suit the room. A large installation like this could dominate when the ambition was to enhance. Gracious agreement with my client allowed me to follow my instincts.
I used a Fiddleback sycamore sawcut veneer on a solid framework with Amboyna inlays to drawer fronts and countertops. The upper part of the whole structure was capped by a pierced frieze. Both frieze and cornice forming a bridge between the two casements. Marquetry capitals following the client’s wishes, I conceded to include. The whole structure, set in a shallow alcove, did fit the bill I’m relieved to say.
