Setting the brief for this very special commission required a great deal of thinking. How to create a table of some style and quality that would seat six to eight people, converting from the square to the round using folding drop-leaf segments which are not supported by some gate leg assembly. A mechanism using sliding bars was invented with magnets to secure the leaves when folded. It worked! I wanted the table to have an undeniable femininity which I knew would please the client, hence the curve of the legs capped with inlaid ebony feet. The tabletop laid in ‘Birdseye’ maple, segmented in a decorative fashion is constructed in solid and sawcut American maple.
