I made this table as a salute to a long-time hero of mine. Five pieces of wood and an acre of thought. Simplicity is always the hardest to achieve, harder to make than it looks because of the interlocking shouldered housing. The severity of the design obliges the maker to indulge in an accuracy not expected for such a simple piece of work. Constructed in Japanese oak, I laminated the top and shelf with a sawcut veneer. To achieve total stability mitred lippings were applied around each edge.
