These cabinets were designed with an oriental influence to suit the character of the room. The left-hand cabinet incorporates a completely enclosed workstation. The right-hand cabinet for silver and glass has four rollout file drawers. The casements are veneered in Macassar ebony on an ebonised, bevelled plinth. The folding shutter doors are laid in Masur birch veneer with ebony strings, lipped in ebony. Faux tortoiseshell patras form the background to escutcheons and locks and construction between upper and lower cabinets have secreted sliding shelves. The interiors were laid in plain sawn sycamore veneer.
